Clarinet Care and Maintenance Workshop

The objective of this workshop is to learn the basics of clarinet care and maintenance. The workshop will provide an introduction to commonly used tools, materials, and techniques. During one day of intensive instruction, you will develop the skills necessary to maintain your clarinet in good playing condition.

The workshop will cover the following:

  • Use of tools

  • General inspection

  • Tightening loose rings

  • Keywork dissasembly/reassembly

  • Cleaning: keys, tone holes, body

  • Spring inspection and adjustment

  • How to properly disengage and engage springs

  • Pad inspection and adjustment

  • Applying key corks

  • Lubrication of mechanism

  • Regulation of mechanism

  • Pitch adjustment

  • Eliminating water in tone holes

  • Final inspection

Workshop Details:

Workshops are offered at the studio between 9:00 am – 6:30 pm most days except Sundays.   A typical workshop would be 1 day consisting of 8 hours of one-on-one instruction.  Lunch, all tools, and supplies will be provided during the workshop.  Optionally, the workshop may be split over two days of 4 hours each, if desired.    Group instruction is available for 2- 3 persons.   The workshop fee is $400.00 per person.  A $100 deposit is requested for reserving a workshop and will be applied to the workshop fee.  The deposit will be refunded for cancellation up to 7 days in advance of the scheduled workshop.   Please call to discuss fee rates for group workshops.
